  1. Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is located in Nepal. Surprisingly, Nepal has the highest proportion of Hindu i.e., 81% of citizens identify as Hindu.

  2. Nepal is home to some of the highest natural wonders in the world, eight of the ten highest peaks, including the highest Mt. Everest, highest lake - Tilicho, highest valley - Arun valley. Wnature has stretched these extremes of height with some of the lowest natural wonders such as Shey Phoksundo, deepest lake, and Kali Gandaki canyon, 2nd deepest canyon in the world.

  3. To add to the natural glory, Kami Rita Sherpa, Nepali guide, holds the records for most ascents to the summit of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha).

  4. Nepalese man Chandra Bahadur Dangi holds the Guinness world record for the shortest man in the world.

  5. Kathmandu is the city with the highest concentration of World Heritage Site by UNESCO. On the other side, it is also the third most polluted city in the world.

  6. Nepal does not celebrate Independence Day. It was never colonized or conquered by any empire. Famous Gurkhas warriors take their honors in the land that managed to stay sovereign even when bordered by the biggest countries in the world. 

  7. Nepal is the only country without a rectangular or square-shaped flag. 

  8. Nepal has a living goddess. Kumari, an anointed girl, reigns as a residing goddess until puberty, at which time another girl is anointed.

  9. Killing cows is illegal in Nepal. Not so surprising as a cow is the national animal of Nepal and sacred to Hindu. However, during the Gadhimai festival, tens of thousands of animals used to be sacrificed until 2015; this practice is now slowing down.
