Overview of Mardi Himal Trek

The Mardi Himal Trek is a hidden gem in the Annapurna region, offering a peaceful and less crowded alternative for those craving an "off the beaten path" adventure in Nepal. It is the best trek in nepal for beginners. While most trekkers head straight for the well-known Annapurna Base Camp, just south of it lies the hidden gem of the Mardi Himal trek, a breathtaking, less-crowded trail that offers raw natural beauty and a true sense of adventure. As of May 2025, Nepal’s rule requiring foreign trekkers to hire licensed guides for treks like Mardi Himal is still officially in place.

The trail leads adventurers through enchanting rhododendron forests, quaint villages, terraced fields, and alpine meadows, eventually revealing breathtaking views of the Annapurna range, including the majestic Machhapuchhre Himal (Fishtail). Though parts of the path can be steep and slippery, especially on the approach to Mardi Himal Base Camp, the scenic beauty more than rewards the effort. At a remarkable Mardi Himal Base Camp height of approximately 4,500 meters, trekkers are treated to stunning, up-close views of the surrounding snow capped peaks.

The standard Mardi Himal trek itinerary starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a short transfer to Phedi—the trek's starting point. From here, the route passes through Deurali, Forest Camp Mardi Himal, Low Camp, and then High Camp Mardi Himal. The final ascent to Mardi High Camp and the upper viewpoint offers panoramic vistas of Mardi Himal and neighboring peaks, making it one of the most rewarding high-altitude hikes in Nepal.

Whether you're planning your Mardi Himal base camp trek as a short escape or as part of a longer Himalayan adventure, it’s important to consider the Mardi Himal trek altitude, physical demands, and current trail conditions. The Mardi Himal trekking itinerary typically spans 5–7 days, depending on pace and acclimatization, and the Mardi Himal trek cost remains relatively affordable compared to other treks in the region.
